Since Nabiax began its operation in 2019, equal opportunities in terms of gender has always been a priority, belonging to a traditionally male industry. This is reflected in the commitment made by the company through Sustainable Financing linked to 3 ESG indicators, including equal hiring. In this way, the company has committed to ensuring that at least 50% of its new hires are women.
On the occasion of the International Working Women’s Day celebrated today, March 8th, we have gathered 5 women who belong to different areas of Nabiax, seeking their perspectives on the data center sector in general; and their assessment of Nabiax’s efforts in this area in particular.
There is no doubt that the data center industry in Spain continues to grow solidly, especially motivated by the irruption of Hyperscale and the deployment of its cloud regions, as well as by the arrival of Artificial Intelligence.
Ana Merello, Junior Business Developer, emphasizes that “the sector has to be constantly evolving and updating. That is why I believe that the key to professional development is to be up to date in both the technical and business areas in order to understand how the market is evolving, what kind of demand there is going to be and with what technological solutions we can best meet these needs”.
Also, Marta Quintero, an engineer in Nabiax projects, believes that “Companies are tending to become increasingly digitalized and this will ensure that our sector continues to grow steadily. Our infrastructures are going to be more and more necessary, so there is a great opportunity to develop a professional career”. She adds: “The industry is and will continue to evolve, and the role of women will increasingly gain recognition and leadership roles“. From an Operations perspective, Laura Albarrán thinks that this is a booming sector: “It is a job that is growing day by day, as we grow, our scope and responsibility increases, so I believe that professional development is clear, and that there is a career path in this industry”.
In this context, diversity is highlighted as a key element on the road to success, and which improves the experience of professionals within an organization. In this sense, Gloria Norling, member of the Legal area points out that “In the legal field there are traditionally more women than men; but it is not common with this degree of specialization that we have in our department in this particular sector. In addition to the fact that we have to work with people from other very diverse disciplines, which is very enriching”.
Ana Merello points out that she sees diversity as something “fundamental for setting up high-performance teams, motivated in part by the differences in approaching a problem and seeking a solution, or the variety of approaches and points of view that can be found in people with different profiles”. In this sense, opinions differ more when we talk about diversity policies. For example, Gloria Norling and Marta Quintero believe that equality should be given in opportunities, and that being benefited by their gender in the result would detract from their professional profile. On the other hand, Marichel Martínez, Office Manager, believes that “Positive discrimination, although it is not the best thing, I think it is good if it helps women to enter this sector. Years ago there were obstacles because of the fact of being a woman, and thanks to these initiatives the situation has improved”.
At this point in the discussion, we asked the five women to rate Nabiax’s diversity and inclusion efforts. The overall view is positive. For example, Marta Quintero and Laura Albarrán agree in valuing the “extra effort that Nabiax makes, especially in technical profiles, to ensure that the team is diverse. The company seeks a balance that is positive for the team”.
For her part, Marichel Martínez highlights not only gender diversity, but also age diversity: “My opinion of diversity at Nabiax is positive, because I believe that an effort is made to integrate people of different ages. I think it is very enriching, especially when it comes to sharing experiences and knowledge between younger and more senior people”.
Laura Albarrán believes that thanks to this effort, more and more women may decide to enter what was traditionally a “man’s job”: “Seeing that there are successful women in this type of industry encourages other women to want to enter similar positions. It has something of a pull effect that will lead to more and more diversity in organizations.”
Eva Mora, Chief People & Culture Officer, emphasized the importance of having a diverse team: “At Nabiax, we believe that diversity directly influences a better result. It is positive that we have a diverse team in multiple factors, such as gender, age and nationality, among others. That is why we have self-imposed equality indicators in our Sustainable Financing, endorsing our strong commitment in this area”. For Nabiax, having a skilled and diverse team is key to face the future with guarantees. That is why talent is a fundamental pillar that will facilitate the achievement of our progress in ESG, both in terms of equality and environmental impact, another of the company’s major commitments.
